Provenance

Description

This painting translates C Major into color through my chromesthetic system, where the tonic triad sounds entirely warm: C as red, E as yellow, G as red-orange, all three tones gathered on the same side of the color wheel. There is no cool counterpoint — only broad fields of salmon and coral above, a saturated orange disc rising at the upper left like a struck tonic, and deep reds anchoring the base. Small accents of yellow-gold surface within the central cluster, precise as an inner voice. What the viewer sees is the chord itself, spread open across the canvas the way an open voicing spreads across the keyboard.
The work takes its title and spirit from "Sometime Ago," Sergio Mihanovich's waltz standard, built on C Major. The waltz turns rather than drives — three beats circling — and the composition carries that motion in forms that orbit rather than march. Slate-blue and brown passages enter at the right not as cool intrusions but as the resonant body of the voicing, the weight that lets the warmth breathe. The brightness holds throughout: a harmony that opens without closing, warm without burning.
