Description

Seven notes descending from F#7 to D2 — the closing waltz. D2, D3, A3, D4, D5, F#6, F#7. The fifth A sits low at A3, tucked between the second and third octaves of the root — a warm yellow-orange accent in the lower registers rather than its usual mid-range position. Four D notes fill the bass and middle. Played Lent, mp, legato, in three.

Silver at F#7 opens the descent. Green at F#6 follows, the third still bright. Then the chord enters its orange phase — D5, D4, D3, D2 — four registers of the root, each darker, each heavier. The fifth at A3 sits among the dark oranges rather than above them, its yellow-orange barely distinguishable from the surrounding root tones.

The series ends as it has lived — a descending waltz, the phrase falling from the green of the third through the graduated orange of the root into near-black bass. The fifth buried low, the ninth absent, the last gesture a slow surrender to darkness.
