Description

After the sub-bass opening, Variation 1 rises entirely off the ground — no deep bass, no sub-register. D4 is the starting point, a mid-range orange. The five notes span from D4 to F6, staying gathered in the upper half of the keyboard. A pocket of the chord examined closely.

F6 appears as light yellow at the crest — the minor third rendered pale and high, its red-violet nature nearly gone in the upper register. D4, D5 provide warm orange; A4 and A5 supply yellow-orange. The palette is almost entirely midtones (75%), the low bass absent.

Lent, piano, legato, four beats. The arch within this compressed upper range has a different intimacy than the wide bells — no darkness below, no extreme brightness above, just the chord's warmth residing in the middle registers.
