Description

Five notes, all chord tones — D, A, F — the triad pure and unadorned. D2 anchors the bass in dark orange, near-black; D4 and D5 carry the root through the middle in warm orange; A5 adds yellow-orange above; F6 crowns the phrase in pale red-violet, the minor third arriving only at the top, lightened almost to white.

Played Lent, p, legato, in four — the softest dynamic in the series, the arch rising from D2 to F6 at the crest before folding back. A gentle bell, unhurried, the legato touch connecting each tone to the next in a single breath. Five notes across four octaves, sparse and deliberate.

The quietest étude in the D minor cycle. No accents, no visitors — just the triad itself, stated softly, the minor third withheld until the very peak of the phrase. Orange warming through the registers, then a single touch of red-violet at the summit before the line descends.
