Description

Three consecutive A's — A3, A4, A5 — fill the ascending half of the arch. Where Variation 4 concentrated the roots, Variation 5 concentrates the fifths. The one note that isn't A (D2) is the foundation bass. No F, no third — just root and three fifths climbing to the crest.

D2, A3, A4, A5: a single dark bass D, then yellow-orange building across three octaves. The A's render as yellow-orange, shifting lighter as the register rises. At A5, the palette reaches its warmest and most luminous point before folding back.

Three A's stacked is unusual even in a series that often groups pitches by class. The three fifths create a continuous staircase of yellow-orange. No red-violet, no third — the most stripped version of the chord's warmth, the minor quality entirely absent.
