Provenance

Description

Three notes played Lent, mp, legato, in triple time — a descending gesture, spare and deliberate. Ab2 anchors the bass, then D4 and D5 sit above, both outside the chord entirely. No C, no Eb. The Ab Major triad reduced to its root alone, the rest given over to the orange visitor.

The canvas is almost entirely warm: orange in the mid-register, darker orange-red below, with only a thin band of blue toward black at the bottom where the lone Ab lives. The chord's own colors — blue, red, blue-violet — are nearly absent. What should be a cool key reads as something unexpectedly warm.

The earliest Ab Major study, and the strangest. A triad defined not by what it contains but by what it withholds — the third and fifth missing, the visitor left alone on a wide, quiet stage.
