Description

Five notes played Lent, p, legato, in four — a quiet bell rising from Ab2 to C6, the softest and sparest of the slow variations. The third appears twice at C5 and C6, the fifth once at Eb4. D4 brings the familiar orange accent. Only one root, low in the bass, the blue nearly absent from the canvas.

The top of the painting is pale: C6 dissolves toward near-white, the red of the third bleached to the faintest blush. Below, red-violet and blue-violet sit at C5 and Eb4, muted and soft. The orange at D4 warms the center. Ab2 presses blue toward black at the very bottom, a narrow band of darkness beneath a canvas that reads mostly as faded pastels — violet, pink, a touch of orange.

The gentlest variation. Soft dynamic, slow tempo, pale upper register — Ab Major at its most subdued, the chord fading like late-afternoon light through a window.
