Provenance

Description

Six notes played Lent, mp, legato, in triple time — a descending waltz, the line falling from Ab1 through the middle registers to C6. The third appears once at C4, the fifth once at Eb4, the root twice in the deep bass. D5 arrives as an orange accent, and here it claims a generous field — the visitor at its most expansive, a warm glow spread wide across the upper canvas.

Blue toward black fills the bottom where Ab1 and Ab2 sit. Red and blue-violet appear together in the middle at C4 and Eb4, the chord's warm and cool elements side by side. Above them, the orange at D5 opens into a broad, sandy warmth — the non-chord tone given more space than any chord tone in the upper register. C6 dissolves to pale pink at the top.

The variation where the visitor overtakes the host. D's orange owns the widest field, and the chord tones defer to it — Ab Major stepping aside to let the stranger speak.
