Description

Before the Research on Harmony series took shape, this early reflexion already carried the cool palette of F# Major — but reluctantly. Seven notes descend from A5 through the middle register to F#2, Lent and mp, a waltz that falls rather than climbs. The contour is unusual: a phrase that opens near the top and steps downward in triple time, unhurried, each beat weighted by the slow tempo.

The green of the root appears low, compressed toward gray in the bass. Violet and blue-green surface in the middle octaves where A# and E sit, but the dominant accents are warm — orange at D3, yellow and yellow-orange higher up — colors foreign to this cool triad, as though the key has not yet settled into itself.

Among all the F# Major études, this is the only descent and the only slow piece. Where the series that follows will be animated and ascending, this reflexion moves in the opposite direction — a quiet, downward waltz still searching for its harmonic identity.
