Description

Six notes spanning six octaves, and a non-chord visitor. The root appears four times — F#1, F#3, F#4, F#5 — climbing from near-black in the sub-bass to a clear green in the fifth octave. Between F#3 and F#4 sits G3, a half-step intruder whose red-orange accent disrupts the cool field like a spark in a dark room. At the very top, A#7 dissolves into near-white, the violet third bleached by extreme altitude.

The inverted-bell contour dips the phrase into the bass before lifting it upward. Animé and mf, the étude moves with energy and moderate force, legato throughout. The green of the root dominates — four instances across the registers — while the third appears only once, at the uppermost edge where color barely survives.

This is the first variation to introduce a tone outside the triad. That red-orange G3 sits among the dark greens of the low-middle register, a warm fragment in the coolest major key. The painting is mostly dark and green, brightened only at its highest point.
