Description

Six notes climb from F#2 to A#6 in an ascending waltz, but the fifth finally steps forward. C#3 appears low in the phrase — blue-green compressed toward darkness in the third octave — giving the triad's coolest member a presence it rarely claims in this series. D5 adds a single orange accent in the middle, the only warm tone.

Animé, mp, legato. The root marks the bottom at F#2 in gray-green, then reappears at F#4 where the green gains clarity. At F#5 the green is brightest, and D5 beside it introduces a flash of orange before the phrase arrives at A#6 — the violet third, pale and luminous near the top of the keyboard. The blue-green of the fifth and the green of the root tilt the canvas toward cool tones throughout.

Among the ascending waltzes, Variation 5 is the most balanced in its use of the triad. Root, third, and fifth each appear, each in a different register, the cool-green key heard in full with only a trace of warmth at its center.
