Description

Nine notes in four beats — the only dense étude in quadruple time. The inverted-bell contour dips into the bass at F#2, then rises through a rich interior: C#4 and C#5 carry the blue-green of the fifth in two adjacent octaves, the chord member that most other variations neglect. A#4 brings violet into the middle, while D5 and G5 add orange and red-orange warmth.

Animé, mp, legato. The four-beat meter gives the phrase a more even tread than the waltzes — a walking pulse through a crowded field of pitch. F#3 anchors the low-middle in dark green, F#5 provides brighter green above, and A#6 dissolves into pale violet at the peak. The fifth's blue-green, appearing twice, gives the canvas an aquatic depth that the root-heavy variations lack.

This is the richest palette in the series. Three chord tones in characteristic color, two warm accents, nine pitches distributed across five octaves. The inverted bell holds all of it in a single sweeping gesture that sinks before it soars.
