Description

Six notes with a cool visitor. C2, D3, Db5, G5, B5, E6 — the arch rising from C2 to E6. Played Lent, mp, legato, in four. A blue-green accent at Db5 slips between the chord tones, a cool tension in an otherwise entirely warm chord. The seventh B appears at B5 — yellow-green — and the fifth G at G5, the chord more complete than most variations.

The bass begins in dark blue-violet at C2, the root's red shifted by register into cooler territory. Orange warms the lower-middle at D3. Then the blue-green accent at Db5 interrupts — a streak of cool color among the warmth. Red-orange at G5, yellow-green at B5, and yellow-orange at E6 complete the upper half in warm and near-warm tones.

The only étude in the series with a cool accent — that single blue-green moment standing out against the reds, oranges, and yellows of the C major ninth. The arch holds it briefly, then moves on.
