Description

The only Modéré in the series — a measured, moderate tempo, neither slow nor animated. Seven notes ascending from C0 to G5, played Modéré, mf, legato, in three — a waltz climbing from sub-bass to the light red-orange of the fifth. C0 lies below the piano's standard range, a pitch felt in the body. Two violet accents — Bb3 and Bb4 — intrude as cool tensions in the warm chord.

Black at C0 is absolute darkness. The root emerges at C2, still near-black. Orange at D3 warms the lower-middle, then the violet accents at Bb3 and Bb4 disrupt the palette — cool streaks in a warm field. Red-orange at G4, violet at Bb4, then red-orange brightening at G5. The phrase climbs from infrasound into the middle of the warm spectrum.

A waltz at moderate tempo with sub-bass and cool visitors — the only ascending phrase that starts below the keyboard and never reaches the upper register, the chord contained in the warm middle, the violet accents threading through like memories of a cooler key.
