C Major9 - Research on Harmony - Variation 8

Six notes from C1 to E7 — the widest possible span with only six notes, the chord reaching from the bottom of the keyboard to the top. Played Lent, mp, legato, in four, the arch rising from C1 to E7 at the crest. C1, C2 in the bass, then G3, D4, D5 in the middle, and E7 alone at the extreme treble — the third arriving as pale yellow at the keyboard's very edge.

The canvas is dark below and light above with saturated warmth at the center. Black at C1, dark gray at C2, red-orange at G3, orange at D4 and D5 — then a wide leap to E7, silver, the third's yellow bleached to near-white at extreme height. The gap between D5 and E7 leaves the upper half of the canvas almost empty.

A study in extremes — six notes stretched across the full keyboard, the warm center flanked by darkness below and pale light above, the third placed at the furthest possible distance from the root.
