Description

Five notes descending — D5, D4, G3, C2, C1 — the phrase opening at D5 and falling to C1 in the deepest bass. Played Lent, mp, legato, in three — the second waltz in the series, the second descent. The fifth G appears once at G3, the root twice at the bottom. No third, no seventh. The ninth leads, the root resolves.

Orange at D5 opens the canvas in warm light. Orange darkens at D4, then red-orange at G3 carries the fifth lower. The root arrives as dark gray at C2 and near-black at C1 — the phrase sinking from warm color into darkness. The palette narrows as the line descends: from saturated orange to muted earth to black.

A waltz that falls from light into the bass — the ninth's warm orange dissolving into the root's black, the phrase finding its resolution in the piano's lowest octave. The simplest descent in the series.
