Description

Inspired by "Body & soul" jazz ballad, no root below the fifth octave. Variation 1 begins at Ab3 and climbs to B5, the Db appearing only at Db5 — a rootless harmony that floats, unanchored in the bass. Seven notes, Animé, soft and legato, an inverted-bell contour that dips before rising. The four-beat meter walks steadily through the phrase. Blue-green toward green tints the mid-range where the chord tones cluster. Red-violet and blue lean toward blue-violet in the upper voices, the cool palette intact. But three accents break through — yellow-orange, yellow-green, red-orange — warm intrusions scattered across the span. A4 and B4, neither chord tones, carry as much visual weight as the triad pitches around them. This is the variation that lets the chord hover. Without a bass root to anchor it, the blue-green and red-violet sit higher in the painting, lighter, less grounded — Db Major seen from above rather than below.
