Description

Eight notes, Lent, and the widest range of accents in the series. The bell arch rises from Db2 through the middle register to F6 at the peak — near-white, the third bleached pale at that altitude. Three non-chord tones appear: G4 in red-orange, D5 in orange, B5 in yellow-green. Together they form a warm interruption in the cool Db Major palette, a band of fire between the blue-green bass and the pale upper voices.

The slow tempo — Lent, mp, legato — gives each of these colors time to breathe. Blue-green toward black sits in the low register where Db2 and F2 anchor the painting in darkness. Red-violet leans toward violet where the thirds cluster in the midrange. The contour rises and falls with patience, the bell shape unhurried.

Among the Db Major études, Variation 3 stands apart for its warmth. Those three accents — red-orange, orange, yellow-green — are the brightest and most varied non-chord colors in the series, a full warm spectrum nested inside a cool key.
