Description

Three tensions in one étude. Variation 7 carries the richest palette of non-chord accents in the series: a violet A#3, an orange D5, and a red-orange G5 — each appearing alongside the chord tones of E Major as chromatic pressures against the harmony. Nine notes total, ranging from E2 to G#6.

The line dips to E2 (near-black) before climbing — a valley, as in most of the series. Highlights overwhelmingly dominate the tonal balance, with the painting oriented strongly toward the upper registers despite the dark bass anchor. Midtones are modest; shadow is nearly absent.

Animé, mp, legato, four beats. What distinguishes Variation 7 is not the shape — which follows the series' established valley pattern — but the density of color tensions that surround the chord: warm orange, cool violet, intense red-orange, each placing a different kind of pressure on the yellow-green-blue harmonic center.
