Description

More notes, same climb. Variation 5 adds one more pitch to the ascending waltz — seven notes now against Variation 4's six — and in doing so fills out the interior of the line more completely. G2, G3, B3, D4, B4, B5, B6: the étude places multiple versions of the chord's pitches through the middle register before the phrase reaches the heights.

Four versions of B appear across the span: B3, B4, B5, B6 — the third in four successive octaves, ascending. The yellow-green travels upward in stages, each instance a little lighter and more luminous than the one below. Highlights and midtones hold roughly equal weight, with shadow very thin.

Animé, mp, legato, triple time. The same animated character as Variation 4, but internally richer — more pitches, more shades of the chord's color, the waltz stepping through a fuller register before hanging at the top.
