Description

The loudest étude. Variation 5 is marked mf — the only étude in the B Major series at a clear, moderate presence, stronger than the mp throughout the rest. Five notes, Animé, ascending waltz: B2 to D#6, with an orange D5 appearing as a chromatic accent mid-climb.

B2 reads as dark yellow in this étude — a warm dark rather than the cool blue-violet or near-black of other variations. The phrase rises through the chord with assertion: the mf dynamic giving each note a weight and presence that the quieter études don't carry. From the warm dark bass to the pale yellow-green D#6 at the top.

The tonal distribution leans toward highlights at 70% despite the shorter span. Variation 5 doesn't reach for the extreme D#7 that Variations 4 and 7 attain, but what it offers is a more forward, assertive quality — the same waltz stride, but louder, more declared.
