Description

The B Major triad — yellow-green, blue-green, and green — unfolds here as three distinct greens, the chromesthetic palette of a key that lives entirely within one color family. The painting translates the opening bars of Chopin's Nocturne Op. 32 No. 1: a deep, dark green anchors the bass register where the rooted B2 sits low on the keyboard, while the left hand arpeggios spread the triad through the middle range. As the melody enters in the upper register, the greens brighten toward yellow-green, and the purple of A# (the major seventh, present from the first bar) and the yellow of E punctuate the harmonic landscape.
Chopin's Nocturne is at once delicate and constructed — a melody of extraordinary gentleness carried by precisely engineered arpeggiated patterns. The painting follows this dual character: soft-edged color fields that overlap and breathe into one another, built upon interlocking geometric planes that hold the composition together. The surface is gentle, but the architecture is rigorous — just as Chopin intended.
