A violet shadow in a descending waltz. The étude opens at F#6 — a pale yellow-orange — and falls in triple time toward D1, but somewhere mid-descent an A# appears, its chromesthetic violet a cool intrusion among the warm greens and yellow-oranges of D Major. Seven notes, legato, the long phrase finding its resolution in the dark bass.

A# is not a chord tone of this key. On the canvas it reads as a violet accent: a small cool note among the warm fields, a brief passing shadow that the étude acknowledges before continuing its descent. The line falls from light toward dark, the waltz rhythm carrying it gently downward.
