No legato here. The articulation is left natural — each note speaks with its own decay, the sounds separating rather than flowing together. In waltz time, descending, this gives the phrase a different quality: the notes distinct, the silences between them audible, the canvas's vertical bands of color standing more independently.

Six notes: F#6 at the top, then A4, F#4, A3 through the middle, D2 and D1 in the bass. Seagreen and yellow-orange in the upper register, then orange repeating at lower octaves, the root's orange-black anchoring the bottom. Lent, mp, the descent unhurried.

Among the descending waltzes in this series, this one is the most open — no accent note, no legato binding, the étude settling into its simplest possible form.
