Description

The most violet canvas in the series. Six notes in an inverted bell, Animé, mp, legato, in four — the phrase dipping to Bb2 before climbing through the middle register and out to D6. F3 and F4 both carry the fifth in red-violet, and Bb2 adds the root in dark violet below them. Three of the six pitches wear shades of violet or red-violet, the chord's cool identity stated clearly.

D4 burns orange at the center, the only warm interruption in the surrounding violet field. Bb5 lifts the root higher into a richer violet, and D6 dissolves to pale orange at the top. The balance leans toward the chord's violet tones rather than its orange third — a cooler reading of Bb Major than most variations offer.

Variation 4 is the fifth's moment. F appears twice in the lower-middle register, giving the chord tone that was missing from Variations 2 and 3 a sustained presence. The red-violet of the fifth frames the orange third on both sides.
