Description

No bass at all. The lowest note is D4 — the third of the chord — and from there the canvas opens in orange, warm and saturated. Three notes in an inverted bell, Animé, mp, legato, in four: D4, Bb4, D6. The phrase dips briefly to D4 before rising to D6, where orange thins to near-white. Bb4 provides the root at the center in violet, a single cool presence between two thirds.

The fifth is absent. Without F, and without any pitch below the fourth octave, the étude floats — no dark foundation, no sub-bass weight. The palette is bright: orange at D4, violet at Bb4, pale orange at D6. Two octaves, the most compact span alongside Variation 2.

Bb Major as a bright window with no floor. The chord hangs in the middle and upper registers, unanchored, the root appearing only once between two statements of the third. A study in weightlessness — the warm-dark key stripped of its darkness.
