Description

The first valley in the series, and the first Animé — a complete shift from the slow, arching études that preceded it. Animé at 88 in four beats, piano and legato. Five notes: C2, C3, C4, G4, Eb5. Three consecutive C's in the lower registers form a dense foundation before G4 and Eb5 emerge above.

The valley shape dips to C2 (dark red-toward-black) before rising through the three-C staircase to Eb5 (light violet). Three consecutive octaves of C appear at C2, C3, C4 — the root in three steps, progressively less dark. Midtones dominate at 74%; highlights barely register at 4%.

Despite the Animé tempo's energy, the palette remains subdued. The chord stays in its darker mid-range; Eb5 at the crest is a pale violet, the brightest note only a few registers from the piano's center. Variation 6 is the series' first moment of motion — forward-leaning, valley-shaped, but still quite dark.
