Description

Variation 9 is the fuller version of Variation 8 — the same descent from Eb6 to the bass, but expanded to six notes. C1, C2, G4, C5, G5, Eb6. Two C's deep in the bass, two G's in the upper registers, Eb6 at the opening, C1 at the end.

The descent opens at Eb6 (light orange) and falls through G5, C5, G4, C2, to C1 (black). Three pitch classes — C, G, Eb — in alternating registers: the chord traced fully downward. Highlights remain dominant at 56%, the high-register opening carrying the palette toward the light.

Two C's at the bass (C1, C2) close the descent, the resolution sinking into the deepest available root. The étude moves from light to dark in waltz time — a slow, graceful fall from the bright Eb6 top to the near-black bottom.
