Description

The brightest bell in the series. Variation 10's arch rises from C2 to Eb6, the same span as several other études here, but with 61% highlights — the palette shifted firmly toward the light. Five notes: C2, C3, G4, G5, Eb6. Two C's as the base, two G's climbing the middle, Eb6 as the luminous crest.

Lent and mp, the arch is generous and calm. The two G's at G4 and G5 provide red-orange warmth across two registers before Eb6 adds its light orange at the top. The shadows are minimal; the weight of the painting is in the bright zone.

Variation 10 sits near the midpoint of the series and marks a shift: the series moved from deep shadows in its opening variations toward this point of brightness. A quiet turning in the overall arc — the same chord, the same tempo, yet the palette now resolves upward rather than darkening.
