Provenance

Description

Eight notes, descending waltz from Eb7 to C2: the densest descent in the series. Eb7 (silver), Eb6, A5 (yellow-orange accent), G5, Eb5, G4, C3, C2. The opening at near-white Eb7 and the arrival at dark-red C2 — the palette traveling its full range in a slow waltz.

Two Eb's at the top (Eb7 and Eb6), then A5's chromatic warmth, then G5 and Eb5 in the middle range, then G4, and two C's closing the phrase. The descent is methodical — not a simple step-down but a weave through chord tones and registers. Highlights at 45%, shadow at 19%.

The A5 accent interrupts the expected Eb-G-C sequence with yellow-orange — a warm touch before the phrase moves into its final descent. Among the descending waltzes in this series, Variation 14 is the most elaborate, carrying the widest variety of tones from silver-white through the chord's colors to near-black.
