Description

The phrase skips. After G1 in the bass, the line jumps directly to G4 — two G's with nothing between them, an empty interval of two octaves where G2 and G3 would have been. The low G sits alone, separated by silence from the rest of the chord, before the phrase resumes in the middle register and continues upward.

What follows the leap is a staircase through the violet family. Three Bb's at different heights — Bb4, Bb5, Bb7 — form an ascending sequence within the upper portion of the bell, each one a shade lighter than the last: mid-violet at Bb4, pale violet at Bb5, near-white silver at the extreme Bb7 summit. The arc rises through D5's orange-gold tone before reaching this final pale ascent.

Forty percent highlights reflect the brightness that these high Bb's contribute — a balance nearly equal between the dark G1 foundation and the pale violet heights. The large gap at the bass makes the upper portion feel suspended, the three ascending tones gaining resonance precisely because the phrase had to leap to reach them.
