Description

Eight tones fill the arc — the most densely woven of the Lent bells. G1 and G2 ground the base in near-black red-orange. E3 appears third in the sequence, a yellow tone placed low in the chord, warm and foreign against the minor palette. Then Bb3 in mid-violet, D4 and G4 building the orange-red-orange body of the phrase, D5 carrying the arc upward, and Bb7 crowning the summit at near-white silver. The yellow of E3 does not reappear; it is a single accidental, caught early and left behind.

Soft dynamics — piano rather than the series' usual mezzo-piano — open the surface to light that the louder variations suppress. Forty-four percent highlights: the highest percentage among the G1-bass bells. The pale upper end covers nearly half the composition, giving the painting a luminous quality unusual for a phrase so deeply anchored in the bass register.

Twenty-eight percent midtones. The work distributes unusually: deep shadow at the base, extensive light at the top, and a relatively thin intermediate zone. The yellow flash of E3 lands near the juncture between them.
