Provenance

Description

Five notes, all chord tones, no outsiders — yet the triad is deliberately incomplete. The fifth is entirely absent: F nowhere to be found. Bb1 and Bb2 anchor the bass in near-black violet, the root stated twice at its darkest. Db3 introduces the minor third's blue-green in the middle register, the only note outside the root. Bb3 and Bb4 fill the upper phrase with muted violet. Animé, p, legato, four even beats, an inverted-bell contour that dips into the bass before returning.

The canvas is dominated by dark violet — the root repeated across three octaves compresses the palette toward shadow. Blue-green appears as a single accent in the middle, surrounded on both sides by the root's violet. The painting is cool and narrow, no warmth anywhere.

The most compact étude in the series: three octaves, five notes, one color family. An opening statement that withholds the fifth entirely, declaring Bb minor through root and third alone.
