Provenance

Description

The first waltz, the first ascending contour, and the first warm intrusion. Five notes scattered across four octaves — Bb2, F3, Db4, then two non-chord visitors: G4 and A5. The triad is stated once, sparsely, before the phrase abandons the chord entirely and climbs into foreign territory. Red-orange at G4 and yellow-orange at A5 have no place in Bb minor's cool palette, yet they occupy the upper register unchallenged. Animé, p, legato, triple time.

The canvas splits: dark violet and muted red-violet below, warm accents of red-orange and yellow-orange above. The cool chord tones anchor the lower half; the warm outsiders claim the upper half. It is a painting divided between its harmonic identity and its chromatic visitors.

The sparsest étude in the series — five notes, each isolated, the triad half-stated before the phrase wanders upward into warmth that the chord never asked for.
