Description

The return to waltz time, ascending. Five notes climb from Bb2 to Db6: the root whispers in near-black at the bottom, then the phrase leaps to F4 (red-violet), D5 (orange accent), Bb5 (the only true saturated violet in the series — violet finally vivid rather than muted), and Db6 (blue-green bleached pale near the top). Animé, mp, legato, triple time, ascending contour.

The canvas is top-heavy. Bb5's saturated violet commands a broad field — the root at its most colorful, free of the gray that mutes it elsewhere. Blue-green at Db6 spreads wide beside it, pale but substantial. The orange accent of D5 adds a warm interruption. Below, Bb2 is barely present, a thin dark anchor.

Among the ascending études, Variation 11 is the brightest — Bb5 finally reveals what the root's violet looks like when it reaches the saturated middle register, undimmed by shadow.
