Provenance

Description

A non-chord tone commands the largest share of the canvas. G3 — red-orange, earthy, foreign to Bb minor — claims a wide band in the lower-middle register, a warm intrusion that refuses to yield. The root at Bb2 is dark, its violet tilted toward red-orange rather than the usual cool shadow. F4 places the fifth in the middle as red-violet. The minor third arrives only in the upper register: Db5 as a thin accent and Db6 as a broader field, blue-green fading to pale pink at altitude. Lent, mp, legato, bell contour, four beats.

Warmth below, cool pink above, the red-orange intruder between them. The bell shape crests somewhere in the middle before folding back, but the G3 dominates regardless of contour — its earthen red-orange sits at the center of gravity.

Among the Lent études, Variation 8 gives the most canvas to a single non-chord tone. The triad is present but outweighed, the red-orange of G staining the cool key from within.
