Provenance

Description

The most harmonically complete étude in the series. All three chord tones appear in force: F3 and F4 state the fifth in red-violet, Db3 and Db4 carry the minor third's blue-green through two octaves, Db5 adds saturated blue toward teal at its most vivid. Bb2 holds the root in dark gray-violet. Eight notes across five octaves, Animé, p, legato, inverted-bell contour, four beats. A4 adds a single accent of yellow-orange — a warm visitor in an otherwise cool chord.

The triad finally stated in full, balanced and layered. Blue-green and red-violet share the middle registers in near-equal weight, the root anchoring below. The near-white Db7 dissolves at the ceiling, the minor third's blue-green bleached to a vanishing trace.

Variation 9 is the first étude where the chord feels complete — root, third, and fifth all present and substantial. The yellow-orange accent at A4 is a small warm disruption in an otherwise pure statement of Bb minor.
