Description

Four percent highlights — the chord's warmth almost entirely absent. Six notes, Animé valley, F2 to Ab6, with A4 (yellow-orange) as a chromatic accent. Sixty-four percent midtones; the palette sits heavily in the middle register. F2's red-violet bass and Ab5/Ab6's blue upper zone create the bulk of the painting, with the tiny yellow-orange A4 as the sole bright element.

F2, C3, F4, A4 (yellow-orange), Ab5, Ab6: the valley dips to F2, rises through the chord, with A4's warmth a brief interruption before the phrase climbs to Ab5 and Ab6. Despite the Animé tempo, the painting is nearly lightless in its highlights.

Variation 13 belongs to the series' dark Animé cluster — études that move with energy but hold their palette dense and dark. The yellowish A4 accent floats briefly visible before the blue of Ab reclaims the upper register.
