Description

Lent descending from Ab7 — the bright descent. Sixty-six percent highlights, with yellow-orange accents A4 and A5 adding warmth to F minor's typically cool palette. Six notes falling from Ab7 (near-white) through the chord's colors to F2 (dark bass): Ab7, Ab6, A5 (yellow-orange), C5, A4 (yellow-orange), F2.

The two yellow-orange A's appear in the upper-mid and middle registers, warming the descent as it moves from silver through blue toward the dark root. The phrase moves from near-white at Ab7, through the warm accent cluster (A5, A4), down through C5 (red), to F2's near-black.

With 66% highlights, Variation 17 is one of the brightest studies in F minor. The Lent tempo slows the descent to a contemplative pace, the high-register brightness and yellow-orange accents creating an unusual warmth in a chord usually dominated by cool blue and red-violet.
