Violet at Bb2 anchors the bass in gray. Bb4 brightens to mid-violet, then yellow at E5 interrupts — a warm flash between two cool tones. Bb5 resumes the violet above. The canvas alternates: cool, cool, warm, cool — the yellow a single bright moment in an otherwise violet study.

The sparsest Bb étude — four notes, one accent, the violet gradient interrupted once by yellow. The phrase is barely a phrase — a few tones scattered across the registers, the octave stated in the most economical terms.
