Description

C octaves descending with three warm-and-cool accents. Five notes — C2, D4, Eb4, A4, D5 — but only one is C. The root appears once at C2, near-black in the bass. Everything above is accent: orange at D4 and D5, blue-violet at Eb4, yellow-orange at A4. Played Lent, p, legato, in three — soft, restrained, the quietest C study.

Red compresses toward black at C2, the only trace of C's characteristic hue. Above it, the canvas is entirely borrowed color — orange, blue-violet, yellow-orange, orange again. The octave is barely stated; the accents have taken over.

An octave study in name only — the pitch C appears once, submerged beneath four accent tones. The painting is a quiet abstraction where the root's red sits at the bottom like a memory, the phrase descending through foreign colors toward it.
