Provenance

Description

Pure C octaves — five notes, no accents. C2, C3, C4, C5, C6. The pitch C in five consecutive registers, nothing else. Played Lent, mp, in three — natural articulation, each note standing apart. The phrase descends from C6 to C2, the waltz falling through five registers of red.

Red toward gray — C's warm hue lightening at C6, saturating at C5 and C4, darkening through C3 to near-black at C2. Five steps of a single color, the monochrome companion to the pure F study. No visitors, no interruptions — the canvas belongs entirely to C's red.

The purest C study — five octaves descending, one color, the natural articulation giving each note its own space. Red falling from light to darkness, the phrase resolving into the near-black of the bass.
